Recent Development

Today, as Sandy was looking Carter over like she normally does everyday, she noticed that he had something up with his head.  Upon further investigation, she found a pocket of fluid under his skin but above his skull.  It is completely mobile and moves (almost wave-like) when he is moved or you touch it.  It's not painful to him and he is acting 100% normal.  The nurse shined a light on the fluid and it appeared clear, leading us to believe it is not blood.  I want to be clear on this, it's not under his skull (that we know of) and it certainly isn't affecting his behavior or anything like that at this point.

She proceeded to call the doctor in to the room to examine his head.  The doctor had never seen anything like it.  They were going so far as to google it to see what the internet said.  This freaked us out.  We were told that it's a wait and see thing.  He will be monitored and the size of the fluid pocket will be monitored and potentially drained (that's a couple steps away at this point).  As long as it is not hurting him, they are not overly concerned but you can imagine our thoughts and fears.

The feelings that are coursing through us are of extreme helplessness - inherent in every parent that is faced with an unknown medical issue with their child.  We hope our little guy is going to be ok and he gives us confidence everyday that he can tackle bigger obstacles than this.  He really needs everyone's prayers.  Please keep him in your thoughts.  We will update the blog with the latest as it occurs.
